We are proud to present the first Diversity Portrait of the finance and insurance sector in Quebec.

Some key elements of the report:

  • The Portrait focuses on the analysis of 4 job families (insurance, finance, asset/investment management and financial markets/investment banking), which represent the professions at the heart of Quebec's financial sector. These job families represent just over 7,000 workers in the Quebec financial sector.

  • 13 financial institutions took part in the study, including 10 in the quantitative section, which provided a snapshot of diversity in the financial sector. Workers from the financial institutions participating in this research project represent over 80% of all employees in the Quebec financial sector.

  • When we look at the gender breakdown in the financial sector as a whole, we see that women are practically on an equal footing with men (55% men, 45% women). Insurance and finance job families have a majority of women.

  • An analysis of the sample by ethnic group shows that the financial sector is doing better than industry as a whole. In fact, 30% of visible minorities work in key finance professions, compared with 17% in all industries.

  • Analysis of the report showed that the manager is at the heart of the action. Indeed, it is essential to properly equip managers to transform the employee experience.

  • The vast majority of financial institutions surveyed (91%) have already focused on improving IED, while over 73% have formal targets. These IED efforts are therefore increasingly visible in financial institutions.

  • The report proposes a guiding roadmap comprising 5 key measures to help institutions better equip themselves in terms of IED.
